Pregnancy Care
What Does Pregnancy Care Include?
Antenatal care is much more than routine checkups. A well-structured pregnancy care programme monitors fetal development, identifies potential complications early, provides nutritional and lifestyle guidance, and prepares both mother and family for a safe delivery.
Exercise and lifestyle recommendations
First, second, and third trimester antenatal consultations
Prenatal screening and diagnostic investigations
Nutritional counseling and supplement guidance
Ultrasound coordination and fetal growth monitoring
Early pregnancy confirmation and assessment
Postnatal follow-up and postpartum care
Delivery planning normal vaginal delivery & caesarean section
Trimester-by-Trimester Support
First Trimester
The first trimester is the most critical period for fetal organ development. Early consultations focus on confirming the pregnancy, establishing a baseline health assessment, initiating appropriate prenatal supplements, and addressing common concerns such as nausea, fatigue, and early pregnancy anxiety. Initial screening investigations are arranged in line with current ACOG and RCOG guidance.
Second Trimester
The second trimester is characterised by rapid fetal growth and maternal physical adaptation. Regular antenatal checkups assess fetal wellbeing, monitor maternal blood pressure and weight, and coordinate mid-pregnancy anatomy scans. This trimester also offers the opportunity for detailed discussions about birth preferences and early preparation for delivery.
Third Trimester
As delivery approaches, monitoring frequency increases. Third-trimester care includes fetal position assessment, growth monitoring, pre-labour preparation, and birth plan finalisation. Patients receive clear guidance on recognising the signs of labour, when to seek urgent review, and what to expect during and after delivery.
Why Continuity of Pregnancy Care Matters
Consistent care with the same specialist throughout pregnancy allows for the development of a complete clinical picture, early detection of emerging risk factors, and a trusting therapeutic relationship.
